NTHOCHI is a bread made with mashed ripe bananas at large. The type of banana used for this meal is largely cultivated in the northern and southern areas of the Malawi.

These bananas are widely used to do more than baking. They’re source of fruits, traditional beer and bites when they’re fried ripe. Even some villagers use this as a side mix for traditional medicines.

With its brownish color, Nthochi owns the main ingredient, banana and flavour it with eggs, butter and others to enhance its relative smell and taste.

INGREDIENTS

  • Banana
  • Butter
  • Sugar
  • Eggs
  • Flour

  • After baking, serve the bread in slices after it cools off.

Walk into a restaurant and fast food spot once you visit Malawi and experience Nthochi. It is also sold in the markets packed in yellow papers that individuals consume on their journey.

Good thing is it’s also found at home as families enjoy baking Nthochi themselves. Why not give it a try today?
