The Wavehouse, situated at Gateway’s Theatre of Shopping, is a fantastic spot for the whole family. It boasts of 2 simulated waves, combining elements of all board sports.This international brand came to the Gateway Theatre of Shopping in 2001 and it has been a major attraction since it started. About 2 million visitors flock here every year to try their hand at flowboarding – riding on artificial sheet waves – which are generated by high energy pumps. The Wave House was established by Tom Lochtefeld, whose dream was to take surfing beyond the beach. “When people ask what do I do, I regularly say that I am a surfer turned inventor,” says Tom.

This is the ideal hang out spot to unwind with a few friends. What makes the Wavehouse special is their growing love for music. It’s a popular venue for live music performances. Also, it promotes all genres from rock to pop and even reggae. Great parties are hosted in Wave House with top DJ’s from all over South Africa as the Wave House can hold a crowd of up to 7000 people.

The restaurants here aim to please everyone, whether you are in the mood for a light lunch or a loaded meal to boost your energy. More than 18’s can also grab an ice cold beer or mojito at the bar.

The Wave House has a large selection of merchandise and equipment that is on sale which includes surfwear, swimwear, beachwear, sunglasses, the latest surfboards, skateboards and wakeboards. Another attractions here is the 180m long spaghetti junction super tube which is the highest in South Africa and a skate park designed by Tony Hawk.

 

The Wave House is a great place for special events and is available for hire for birthday parties, bachelor parties and even corporate team building functions.
